Cutthroatpete HJI Men Interview

#cutthroatpete

The essence of a good haircut.

A haircut should make a man feel confident. Guys should be able to apply a recommended product to their hair and create the look they want after they have left the shop. A mans haircut should look good right up until his next visit to the barbershop.
Good haircuts should fit the owner perfectly, it should fit into their lifestyle and if needed, be able to look smart for daytime/work and more styled and edgy for evenings. The right haircut for you can change the appearance of you’re hair and make it look less thick/thin and lifeless.

The perfect haircut is one that involves input from both the gentleman and the barber.

Shortlist Magazine photoshoot and a cigar lounge…

I was kindly invited by shortlist magazine to be the barber on the set for a photo shoot today. It was the first on set job i’d done, so i was really excited to get going. I travelled down to London last night and stayed over in a cool hotel right by Tottenham court road tube station. It was an early start, we had to be on set for 9am. I actually got to give the two models a tidy up, little sharpen up round the ears etc, and then it was all about the styling. I loved working along side the photographer and checking back over the photos to make sure the guys hair was looking good. The creative director and the photographer both let me know that they were really pleased with the looks i created on the models. After a few hours of shooting loads of pictures with different clothes and scenes it was all finished. I had a great time and actually learnt some valuable tips on how to get the most out of a model. I will look forward to working with shortlist magazine again.

I love a retro Seeburg table top juke box..

This place is a brilliant location for a photoshoot.

After the shoot was done, i headed back into london for a mooch before meeting up with my best mate for some food. The weather wasn’t the best, so i decided to try and find somewhere that sold good coffee around the leicester square area. I stumbled across a ‘Cigar Lounge on Wardour street. it was attached to a bar called Casa. I had heard that some premises had found a loop hole in the smoking law that allowed people to smoke cigars indoors, despite cigarettes being banned totally. I walked in to this place and was invited into the large walk in Humidor by the assistant in the Cigar Lounge, I told the guy i was keen to smoke something that wasn’t too strong, after explaining to me in detail which cigar he recommended for me, I decided to try a Montecristo. I have smoked cigars loads of times before and although i have enjoyed them, i dont think i have ever found the right one. The Montecristo will be my regular! The guy told me it would last me about half an hour, so i ordered myself a mocha and kicked back with my cigar and a coffee. I felt like someone from ‘Made in chelsea, but i really enjoyed that half an hour. I would always recommend asking expert advice on which cigar to choose before just jumping in and not understanding the difference between the strengths and flavours.

Check out the website for this bar and cigar lounge or next time you fancy a Stogie and a coffee pop in..

I will certainly be back when i’m next in London.

So, ive had a great day, cutting hair, styling hair, smoking cigars, and drinking coffee.

I will post a link to the shortlist article when it is released.
